Like Dadaism, the Automatism believed that scandal, insult and irreverence was a link between the elite’s freedom. They believed that the lack of form was a great way to rebel against the elite. The Veristic Surrealists allowed their art to come from the subconscious and then analyzed them to see what they truly meant. They wanted to link spiritual realities to the material world. To these Surrealists, the object stands as a metaphor of your inner self. But you could not just look at the object; you had to look into the object to really grasp the meaning. These artists considered schooling discipline and form to be the best link to the subconscious. They schooled themselves to find a better way to freeze images that if unrecorded would fade away into nothingness once more. Two masters of Surrealism are Dali and Picasso; they stand on opposite sides of the art and have totally different approaches towards the twentieth century. Dali took a stronghold to the science of painting, where Picasso was more into ugliness and scandalous art.
