...wn and is given a nick name. With meeting Brown he is inspired to one day become a jayhawker and ride into Missouri. But after Lije's father dies in a "run" they took together, he is forced to adopt the role of the "man of the house" and therefore must take care of his mother and sisters. One day while lije was riding to another town to gather supplies, a group of bushwhackers (men from slave states stealing African Americans and making them slaves) come to his house and burn it down. Luckily, his mother and sister escaped the raid and were safe. Since there house was brunt down he and his family were forced to move to a near by town. When he relocates he meets a few other Jayhawkers and decides that he must seek revenge and decides to ride into Missouri and pose as a bushwhacker. He makes this decision after thinking about it for a large amount of time and concludes that in order to find his fathers killer he must retrieve information for the jayhawkers so he may finally avenge his father’s death. When he leaves, he is escorted by an elderly lady that poses as his grand mother. She takes him far into Missouri and drops him off with 2 Bushwhackers. As planned, Lije plays the role of a spy an...
