CELL PHONE USE
...lking while driving. These girls/guys are putting make-up on, reading newspapers, eating, and even getting dressed. Talking on the cell phone in a car may not be the most convenient thing to do, but it’s definitely not the least. We should be able to talk to people while we drive. There is no good reason why not. This is supposed to be the land of the free, but telling us who we can and can’t talk to doesn’t sound like freedom. If we have the right to partake in an exercise, such as smoking, that will be the leading cause of death in the United States then why wouldn’t we be able to use a cell phone and drive. Today people are putting televisions, dvd players, and playstations in their cars. A quick conversation to your friend should be anything else but outlawed. Cell phones are finding their way into everyone’s pockets and, for the most part, cost less than a standard house phone. A hint at why people know a certain object is widespread and almost outdated; the affordability of the good goes down tremendously. Anyone can afford a phone plan nowadays, from thirty dollars on up. Just as wonderful as cell phones are, they can be just as bad. I was driving home on the interstate from work one night and I encountered a little bit of road rage. I was cruising down the highway at the usual speed of one hundred and twenty miles per hour and from out of no where a white car damn near hit my front end which caused me to slam on my brakes. Being the young adolescent I was I decided to catch up with that person and tell them what I think of their little circus act they pulled earlier. I pulled even with the car and glanced over. Boy, was I not surprised on this one! I see a young girl, not a day past 16. She is on her cell phone carrying on an intense conversation, paying absolutely no attention to driving. Not only was she not paying attention, she didnt seem to have a care in the world because she was talking to someone that important. Some might say that she wa just a bad driver, but i really doubt that because she wasn't swerving, moving at high speeds, or giving any hand gestures. This is an incident that happens all the time and can easily be avoided. One way to stop this is trying to ticket people that are caught talking on their cell phones while driving. This idea has already been considered and since it was such a great idea, they decided to put it into effect. The only places to put this law in effect are New York and California. Don't worry though, experts say that soon every state in America will adopt this law. This is a very good law because I know I would want my kids to be the safest they can be whenever they are out on the road. No matter what situation in a car, a cell phone is not a good thing to mix it with. Lets say that a police officer is chasing a stolen car theif racing thorught he streets at hight speeds. If you are talking on your cell phone you probably can't hear that they are coming, and if you do then it will be too late. A cell phone is the ultimate sign of disrespect because its saying that there is one person so good that you are willing to talk to them no matter where you go. If a was riding in the car with their friend and they are listening to the radio, talking, and having a good time then all of a sudden his girlfriend calls. He turns the music down first, then stops talking to his friend but instead he talks to his girlfriend. Like his conversation is interesting and important enough to listen to anyway. When a person is in his/her car and they are talking away on their phone I don’t think that their attention is on the road. The judgement to stop or dodge something might be a little impaired which could result in a bad situation. This happens to everyone, maybe someone was driving in an unfamiliar area cause they were lost. They call someone for directions; it sounds harmless but as they are dialing and trying to get an answer they might turn the w...
