...e boat. The names Captain Smoot. It be a pleasure ta meet ya.” And at this he grabbed Susanne’s hand and gave her a brisk shake. “Bring up the anchor lad and we’d be on our way,” Captain Smoot barked at Susanne’s little brother Justin who seemed quite terrified by the whole scene. The tour started off slow, everyone was quiet at first until Captain Smoot barked, “Theres a story abaut these here parts,” he paused for a moment looking at the expressions of the people around him, “Its no story ye’d here anywhere else but frum me.” “Do tell! Please tell us the story! Does anyone die? Are there any pirates?” “Huh? I’m a pirate!”, “Arrgh!” screamed Justin, while he was jumping around the boat’s deck. “Settle down Justin and maybe the fine Captain will tell you the story,” the father said in a calm voice. “There’s a legend that these here waters be cursed!” Captain Smoot began, “Legend has it that pirates roam the waters a night time.” He spoke really softly as if he was afraid the pirates would hear him. “Wow really? Real pirates? I want to see! Arrgh! Let them try to take my ship if they dare! I’ll get them! Arrgh” shouted Justin, interrupting Captain Smoot’s story. “Be quiet! I want to hear the story! Sit down and listen!” Susanne told him in a very serious voice. After this Captain Smoot began again with his story. “Alrightye, where be I? Aye! Now I remember. The pirates roam the waters at night. The people of the islands be afraid ta leave there hauses when nighttime comes all because of the pirates! Legend has it that if ye leave yur hause light on at night the pirates will come a plunder through!” The tour went on just as such with Justin asking more and more questions about the pirates and where they were so he could see them. “What does their ship look like? Is it black?” Justin asked eagerly. “Aye, some say that it be black but others say it’s blood red!” barked Captain Smoot. “Woah, cool!” was Justin’s only reply. “Okay Justin, leave the fine Captain alone and let him do his job” the father said. When they reached the shore it was already night time and the family was exhausted. “Thanks again Captain Smoot!” the family shouted from the shore while waving their goodbyes. “Be safe ye friends! Remember to turn off yur lights! Ahahaha!” Captain Smoot hackled from the deck of his boat. “Quite an odd character if you ask me.” Susanne whispered to her father. “No, not at all deary! He just makes the trip entertaining. Look how happy he made Justin.” With that they watched Justin dance around the beach singing really loudly, “Yo Ho, Yo Ho! A pirate’s life for me!” They went and ate dinner and started getting ready for bed. “Can I sleep outside? Huh? Can I father? I’ll protect the tent from the pirates! Arrgh!” asked Justin. “No Justin, come and get in your sleeping bag.” The father replied. “Oh man…but” wined Justin. “No buts, come get to bed right now.” The father said more forcefully this time. The father started telling the children stories until they all became very sleepy. Susanne was resting peacefully until she was awoken by cold fingers on her arm. “Ahh!” she screamed. After realizing it was her brother she got very angry. “Not funny Justin! You brat! I’m going to tell father!” she screamed. “Shhh, please be quiet sister. Listen.” Justin whispered. Susanne paused and listened to the sounds outside. She could hear what sounded like a big group of people walking their way. “We left the light on,” Justin said.
