Even, hiring men to kill his friend Banquo and his son Fleance, whom the witches foretell and prophesize will become king. Lady Macbeth is equally guilty. She is the catalyst of all evil and uses sophistry in order to initiate and spur negative ambition in her husband. “…he shew him doubtful and irresolute about the murder of the King, spurred by ambition to commit it, but restrained by his abhorrence of the action, and when by the instigations of his wife he is prevailed upon to do it…” (Lennox pg 172) This quotation summarizes all of my key points and everything that causes the downfall of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. He and his wife both become mentally distraught due to the chaos and overwhelming guilt.
