Ethics and Morals in Seinfeld
...the current situation, to setting up one of the stories of the episode. All of a sudden a menu catches on fire and George and Jerry get up to extinguish the flames. The owner of the restaurant comes out to handle the situation and George explained to the owner that the busboy “left the menu a little too close to the candle”. The Owner apologizes for the disturbance and Elaine jokingly says, “I’m never eating here again”. The Owner storms off and gets after the busboy. While the two are arguing, George and Elaine start to question if they caused the commotion. The two exchange some heated words, and the busboy storms out of the restaurant. Later on, George and Jerry are in the apartment talking about the Busboy and if he could get another job. Elaine shows up and gives George the address of the Busboy. George leaves with Kramer to apologize to the Busboy. George and Kramer show up at the Busboy’s apartment and George begins to apologize to the Busboy about the situation. George thinks that by showing up to the Busboy’s apartment, he’ll make good for the damage he’s done, but little does he know that Kramer left the door open and the Busboy’s cat got out. The Busboy notices that something is wrong and searches the room for his cat. He looks towards the door and realizes that it is open. He then begins to yell, “La Puerta esta abierta!” (The door is open!) He then runs out of the apartment in search of his cat. The show fades out and when time has elapsed we return to find George and Kramer in the apartment with the Busboy. The Busboy now is sitting in a chair, arms folded and extremely silent with no emotion. By this time he realizes that this man has cost me my job and my cat. To make things even worse, Kramer trips over a wire and breaks the Busboy’s lamp. George is consumed with remorse, and leaves his card with the Busboy. The scene changes and now we’re in Jerry’s apartment. Jerry’s on the phone with George and Kramer walks in and they start arguing about the door that was left open. Elaine walks in to the apartment and starts to tell Jerry about the man that she has had over for the week from Seattle, the sub story of the episode. Now we’re in Elaine’s apartment the next morning. Elaine wakes up late for the cross town trip to the airport. She runs around packing her guest’s clothes and literally throwing him out of her apartment, because she cannot stand his presence. The scene changes to Jerry and George in Jerry’s apartment, discussing the best public restrooms in the city. This is where we all relate to Seinfeld so well, everyday chit-chat. Elaine comes into the apartment and explains her nightmarish and unsuccessful trip to the airport. Kramer then runs into the apartment and tells everyone that the Busboy is coming up to see George. George then shows his neurotic side by cowering at the sheer knowledge that the Busboy is coming to see him. The Busboy then runs into the apartment and tells George what happened. “Three nights ago a gas line beneath the restaurant exploded killing five people in my section, including the busboy who replaced me. If I hadn’t been fired that night, because of you, and your thoughtless, stupid, and insensitive remarks, it would’ve been me…YOU SAVED MY LIFE!!!” He has then found a j...
