...h situation when he crashes his kayak on Devil’s Island, “a place nobody goes near”. He learns to survive against terrible odds when he meets Dr Jeffery Williams and disturbs him from doing his studies. Luke later realises that the mad doctor wants to kill him, and as the story moves on, we read how Luke tries to escape from him. The author wrote this story well, as I felt like I was really there. The technique of writing the book in third person worked excellently because I got and idea of what both Luke and the doctor where feeling. Throughout the novel, I read many thoughts from both Luke and the doctor, which helped me to understand how the characters really felt.
