Milton was worried that his family would react to his failure. When Milton’s father heard the news, he grabbed his coat and talked to Sam Ernest into taking Milton back. Although, Sam agreed to give him a second chance, he became an apprentice to a new trade. This time it was making candy. He left Pennsylvania to work for Joe Royer at his ice cream parlor and garden. From the first day, Milton enjoyed making candy and found what he would do with his life. In May 1876, after four years of hard work, he decided to run his own candy business. He talked to his mother and aunt about it and they both agreed. Aunt Mattie presented him with $150 to start his business. He moved to Philadelphia, worked very hard, and often at night would still be boiling, cutting, and wrapping candies. Each candy was sold for a penny, and that turned out to be a major problem. Milton couldn’t make candies fast enough to make a profit. But if he raised the price then nobody would buy them. Milton tried having a successful candy business, but it was just way too hard. He never gave up until he reached the top of the mountain. Milton Hershey moved to many places to sell his candy and still didn’t succeed. Even though he didn’t become successful, he still believes that he can become rich by selling candies. Milton moved again and this time, he got some business. One day a guy from England tried his candies he said that they were the best he had ever had. He ordered batches of them and wanted Milton to send them to England, and by that time he was thrilled! After only four years of business in Lancaster, his candies seemed to be a hit to everyone. He named his candies Crystal A, and they were eaten in China, Japan, Australia, and Europe.
