Kurzweil invented a reading machine for the blind, so he picked blind scientist and engineers to be part of his team, making sure all the engineers where musicians. Last, but not lease, he offers his three-step program for beginning the invention process and these steps are to write the advertising brochure, use the brochure to recruit the intended users, and finally to engage in some fantasy about your product, he says “close your eyes, and imagine that you’re giving a speech some years from now explaining how you solved the challenging problems underlying your new invention. What would you be saying? What would you have to be saying? This relate to Kurzweil’s writing where he talks about how modern technologies are interdisciplinary. This whole expedition these scientist and shipmen are taking relates to what Kurzweil was talking about. All of the scientist come from different background and know different things. They come together to make the perfect team to explore the ecosystems, allowing to reap benefit, just like Kurzweil’s team for his reading machine for the blind.
