The Real Truth
...see this will think this cigarette is suppose to be as natural as the earth, wind and sun and would want to try it out. Another ad I found was of Camel Turkish Blends. This one is a drawing of a pretty lady holding the cigarette in one hand and touch a guy playing the piano with the other hand. She is giving him a very sexy look. These ads are made to look like smoking is a good thing. Typically in a male magazine they will advertise the cigarettes with a picture of a good looking man smoking the cigarette surrounded by a lot of pretty women. Insinuating if you smoke that specific brand of you will attract just as many pretty women. In a female magazine they will show the woman picking up a lot of good looking guys because of the cigarettes that she is smoking and how she is holding it. Tobacco companies make 1.8 billion dollars a year from under age smokers (TRUTH). These statistics are taken right from the tobacco industries webpage, scary huh? Most of the time young adults read these ads and see people around them doing it and think maybe it’s a cool thing. Its not, every eight seconds someone in the world dies due to tobacco (TRUTH). Fortunately there are some anti-tobacco group advertisements in magazines, on television, radio, and billboards. One of these groups is called “Truth.” Truth has similar advertisements to the actual cigarettes ones, only, it states the truth about what could and most likely will happen to you if you smoke. For example I found an ad sponsored by Truth about smoking. This ad is set in the desert with a cowboy riding a horse. Riding alongside the cowboy is another horse carrying a black bag with the word BODYBAG written on it in white. On the very top of the ad it says in white letter “What if cigarette ads told the Truth?” Just like a normal cigarette ad there is a white box on the right hand corner with writing inside. Only, this one is not the surgeon’s generals warning. It simply says: “YEE HAW! You Too Can Be An Independent Rugged, Macho-looking Dead Guy.” Under th...
