Nature of Logic and Perception
...r own individual needs the addition of children changes things sometimes dramatically. When you become a parent, you then have the added responsibility to now look after someone that is incapable of caring for his or herself. Often as a child I would question the decisions my parents made for me. Not understanding fully on what basis they were made. They as my parents naturally had a broader knowledge base to make these decisions. Children often and for the most part make a decision for the moment not thinking of the long-term consequences. It was this subject that became the focus of a conversation that my father and I had some six years ago. My father quite often it seems during my childhood would told me that “one day it would all make sense”, when he and I would disagree on a conflicting decision. Seldom times did I even attempt to see his view of the decision, all that could be seen in my mind was my own perception of how I did not get my way. This conversation was one of the most humbling experiences of my life. Things were easy during the first few years of parenting, but then as the development process continues, and our children grow up, we have to think beyond just food, clothing and shelter for our children. They begin to develop friends and participate in activities. Thus causing us to think about those, which they “hang” with, and what they are doing. Due to the fact that children rarely understand life in the broader aspect, we have to be responsible for making or guiding them to what we consider to be the proper thing to do. Some things are easy to decide others require discussion and thought. Children today are able to learn and experience more than we may have ever thought they would be able to. The Internet for example seems innocent enough, but it became much more when my son asked for access on the computer in his room. My wife and I though about it discussed it and decided against the idea for the time being. We felt as though this was a privilege and access should be kept in a clearly defined supervised environment of our choosing. Do we always make the right decisions? No we make what we feel is the best decision at the time, based...
