...velope with money inside. The red envelope has positive, good power to protect them from negative things through out the years. Every kid loves the red envelope, to them it symbolizes candy, toys or more time at video arcades, that’s exact how I felt when I receive those thick red envelops. The money can be anywhere from 50 dollars to 500 dollars each, it is really great way to get paid without doing anything. So is the red envelope really lucky or are we just spoiling little kids with cash they can do whatever they want with? I think the amount of money we put in the envelopes is a bad influence on kids, instead of teaching them the values of money we just throw it to them like pieces of papers. When I was around 9, every year after receiving money from New Years I would go out with friends and brag how much more money I got than they did, then we would go out and buy everything we wanted without even thinking. We would spend our money on things parents would never buy for us. Kids know what they can do with money and know that money can bring them the power of buying anything they want. Now that I am older and experienced couple things in my life I have learned to understand the concept and responsibility with money and I think kids should be taught of this too. I admit, as a young kid my favorite part of Chinese New Year was to receive these red envelopes. I always remember which relative would be the most generous and which relatives would be the least generous. Every year I would go up to the same relatives first who are willing to throw their wallets at me and wish them a happy holiday and good luck in the coming year. I was not taught to judge people by how much money they give me but yet I couldn’t help myself to judge the cheaper relatives. It felt like I was wasting my time with them. I have learned New Years is not all about how much money you are getting from your relatives, it is about spending time with your family and just having a good time. I think the tradition of the red enveloped really changed the meaning of New Years for the kids.
