And so on, I could go on with examples of bands which I happen to like, but instead, I am going to bring out bands I dislike to show the difference when it comes to lyrics and pronunciation. Let’s take hip-hop for example. Hip-hop tends to shorten words, they seem to simplify what they are trying to say, make it quicker and this is what it is actually happening. We live in a hurry, with no time for anything at all, so if we have the chance to make something faster, we do not want to miss that chance. The problem is that we are hurrying in an aspect we shouldn’t hurry. Society seems to be taking communication less seriously, we tend to use always the same words, taking more time thinking in a way of contracting the word rather than simply writing it down, and four letter words are incorporated as anything unusual. Internet has also made its income in modern language. Chatting has become impossible to follow for people who do not have a permanent touch with English, phrases such as “ how are you”, are written “ how r u”... Other type of influence we are exposed to comes from the TV. Movies or even propaganda have a special place in our vocabulary since an average persons spends a minimum of...one hour per day watching TV? We all know from what movie comes “Run Forest, run!” or what “007” means. This shows how deep we are involved with television. Another big influence for language is our background.
