UNITED STATES IMMIGRATION ISSUES
...d with life threatening illnesses. Furthermore, illegal immigration has become a contributing factor to the increase in lower standards of living; therefore, creating significantly populated communities of a very low class. In the meantime, as illegal immigration continues to increase, the need for their continued existence in the United States calls for these immigrants to seek work. The fact that they are here illegally leaves them desperate and vulnerable for businesses to hire them at extremely low wages. More often than not, businesses will hire the same workers on a regular basis and never request any legal documentation. Employers are simply seeking that which will benefit their business the most, with little, to no regard for the immigrants well being, nor the fact that Americans are overlooked for employment. Our nation’s self-esteem has become at risk due to the downfall effects of immigration within the United States. On the other hand, arguments that suggest illegal immigration causes harm to our country and people are not all together correct. In fact, there are those of us that feel that immigration has an overall positive effect on the U.S. Economy. According to Government records dated February 2004, immigrants may be adding as much as $10 billion to the economy each year. Although Americans’ continue to pay more each year in taxes, it cannot be entirely blamed on immigration. Generally speaking, records indicate that the vast majority of Americans are enjoying a healthier economy as the result of the increased supply of labor and lower prices that result from immigration. Most importantly, let us not forget that these immigrants are people who simply want a better life, just like our parents and grandparents, who all came to the United States in under the same circumstances. Their goals and dreams of having a better life truly outweigh any amount of money that we could actually give them. People that argue and continue to blame immigration as the cause for increased and overabundant use of schools and housing is not all together the case. While this clearly makes sense, it is suggesting that there is a small amount of housing or land remaining in the United States to build. In reality, we can build as many houses as we want, we have land, we have the needed labor, and we have immigrants willing to work. Why not help them, let them work, and give them a chance at a better life? If America continues to look back at the time when the U.S. Economy was very weak, and, continue to base their opinions on past history, it will never be clear that the U.S. Economic situation today makes increased immigration necessary. While it is true that the United States has undergone a long period of increased immigration and the current economic situation continues to roller coaster, we cannot jump to conclusions and blame it all on immigration and the lack of immigration policies. America has always been known for its open arm generosity; therefore, we as Americans should unite as one to protect ourselves, and the immigrants that come to us looking for a better life. Is that not what America is all about?? Under the circumstances, there is no doubt that the United States needs to come up with a plan. But, rather than severe penalties for immigration violators, or the possibility of deportation, the U.S. Government needs to develop a system, specifically designed for immigration purposes, that will include consequences to immigrants as well as Americans who violate them. At the same time, we need to protect Americans and assist immigrants that are seeking refuge. We can no longer stand by and watch while the Government ignores the fact that Illegal Immigration has caused a heavy burden on the standards of living, the population’s welfare and rights, and the economy as a whole. In order to keep hospitals from closing and health service providers from going out of business, we must speak out. So, this leads me to ...
