Piano Recitals

.... The novice pianists are usually young, between the ages of five to ten. They have no experience at performing in front of a crowd and almost all of them have the same characteristics on the stage. As they play their recital piece, they all bob their heads to the music because it somehow helps them with timing. The tempo of the piece does not concern them; they rush through their piece not knowing that they are playing it faster than they should. They either play too loud or too soft, not giving their piece life. As they finish their piece, they usually just get up and walk quickly away from the stage. The intermediate students are the ones who have at least a year experience with piano recitals. Their presence on the stage looks professional, but only before they start playing. During their piece, they tend to lose their posture as they struggle with tempo. You can see that they feel uncomfortable and start to move around a lot on the bench, holding their heads at an awkward angle. When they are done with their piece, they too stand up quickly away from the chair, but bow as they walk off the stage.
