I began to see Mr. Wickham as a despicable character with the potential to cause a lot of trouble for the characters of the novel. Your novel Pride and Prejudice opened my eyes to the pressure women of Regency England faced when choosing a husband. The social advantages of marrying into an upper class family were considered the most important thing a woman could do. Today, women can choose to work and create their own destinies. When I grow up, I want to be a lawyer, athlete, wife, and mom. I know that I can accomplish all of these goals without having the pressure from my parents to marry for money. I dream of falling in love with the perfect man and living happily ever after. In fact, I can only hope to someday meet a man who cares about me as much as Mr. Darcy did for Elizabeth Bennet. Pride and Prejudice also helped me learn a lot about myself. I learned that it's important to follow whatever my heart guides me to.
