By choosing Kerry as our president, our country’s government will be more resourceful and our economy will run more efficiently. John Kerry’s roots are in the military, because of this, he is committed to supporting it. He served in the Navy during Vietnam, and he knows we cannot take the military responsibility lightly and therefore he will work to ensure that the military is positioned overseas only when objectives are clear. He will provide quality health care and housing to families of those in the military, as well as providing competitive wages for those who serve our country. Although we have limited amounts of money to be spending on the defense of our country, he is aware that it must be spent wisely. There will be training, equipment, and technology provided to allow our armed forces to meet the challenges that face us in the years to come. Running against John Kerry is current president George Bush, who was formerly the governor of Texas. When he was sworn into office in January of 2001, he proposed many things. Some of which were, to reform America’s public schools, transform our national defense, and provide tax relief. Since taking office, President Bush has done many of the things he promised. He has increased pay and benefits for America’s military and is working to strengthen Social Security and Medicare. Since September 11th, America has changed. President Bush declared war against terrorism. This declaration must make America feel safer, right? Wrong. According to the official White House web site, in the first week after September 11th, at least eight planes carried 140 passengers out of the country. Many of the passengers were Saudi Arabian royalty, while about twenty-four of them were members of the Bin Laden family. One of the flights took off from Tampa on September 13th. The White House denied that the flight had ever taken place, but in June records proved that it did. It’s true that there has been some progress and thousands of terrorists have been either killed or captured, but our country needs to spend money in order to win this war. At least ...
