Graduate Program Application Essay
...taken many psychology courses and have had the honor of being a teacher’s assistant for Dr. Cheryl Sander’s Psychological Research Methods I class at Metropolitan State College of Denver. The combined experience of participating in this research class and aiding in the teaching of the class the following semester has given me invaluable insight into the dichotomy of the student body and teaching. As an undergraduate, I conducted a research project from start to finish and present it at the MSCD 7th Annual Undergraduate Psychology Conference. I also have the distinct honor of having that same research published in the Colorado Psychological Association Bulletin (Feb. 04). The process was very enlightening from the formulating of my hypothesis to the opportunity of presenting the results at a conference. I believe my collegiate experiences and accomplishments has well prepared me for the next step in my academic career. Acceptance for admission into a qualified graduate school will facilitate my pursuit of an advanced degree and enable me to actualize my educational goal. I am applying to UNT’s doctoral counseling psychology program for multiple reasons, some of which are personal and others that are academic. UNT’s location is optimal for my personal study because I have a support system in the area. My brother is currently pursuing his MD in Ft. Worth and having him in the area will enable me to have his guidance and support when needed. I also have many friends in the DFW vicinity so the stressors of starting over will not be as great.
