I believe that Hidalgo saw the outcome of the American Revolution and the political changes that were made to be a great thing. Hidalgo could no longer face the economic changes, plus the thousands of people who were left with nothing as the nineteenth century began. Hidalgo was also influenced by the French Revolution. “As an adult, he read the books of French Enlightenment thinkers who disputed the divine right of the kings to exact unquestioning obedience from their subjects”(M&W, 244).
