The three areas of psychology that will be used to describe how to reduce the shyness in a shy child are the fields of Behaviorism, humanistic, and evolutionary. When looking at aquired traits one must be very optimistic in order to analyze the trait and come up with ideas to help reduce the affect of the trait. These three fields can best help explain the child lack of social ness and can best identify the different places the child might have gotten his traits from. The first theoretical orientation that will be used to help analyze and figure out ways of reducing shyness is behaviorism. Behaviorism is the psychological field which believes that when something happens in a situation and there is a positive response there will be a desire to repeat that response because the mind knows that there will be a positive outcome from this action. Behaviorism was first instilled by B.F. Skinner and John B. Watson two early psychologists who believed the mind can be manipulated when an outcome shows a positive or negative outcome. Behaviorism is used less often nowadays because of new methods of psychological research but it is being reformed to function properly in today’s fast paced living. Behaviorism can be used for experiments and conducting surveys which makes it such a good method for the current subject that is being discussed.
