Many will say that legalization of gay marriages goes against God’s word and the government feels they must hold to these morals. Some even believe that is it not natural to see a same sex couple showing affection in public. Yet, there are many people that see it as inhumane to keep gay and lesbian lovers from being legally bound by marriage. In the article “Unspeakable Unions?-The Flimsy Case Against Gay Marriage” from the Chicago Tribune, Stephen Chapman quotes Tim Wildmon, the vice president of the American Family Association: “We just believe it’s plain immoral, it goes against the holy scripture” (16). Although Wildmon says that it goes against scripture, the holy scripture goes against itself. The Holy Bible says in Matthew 7:1, “ Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” God also suggested to the people of Jerusalem in John 13:7, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone.” Stephen Chapman says “We call ourselves a free society partly because we permit all sorts of things that ‘go against the Holy Scriptures’ blasphemy, fornication, making graven images, Sabbath-breaking, coveting your neighbor’s maidservant and more”(16). So, if the Christians believe that gay marriage is immoral, they should look at their own lives, and realize that they too live in sin.
