... life changing experience. That morning, my family and I got up early to pack and get ready to leave. Of course, my mother always takes the longest to get ready. My dad and I are always ready on time, but my mom takes time to do her hair and make-up. After she was ready, we were dropped off at the airport. When Henderson 2 we got to the airport, the air was hot and humid. We boarded the plane, and got ready to lift off. The plane ride took 4 to5 hours. Everyone was confined in tiny chairs, and the air on the plane was not working well. I was looking at my watch, and could not wait to get off the plane. Several hours later, the captain announced, ‘it was time to put on your seatbelts and get ready to land.’ After he said that, I was excited and antsy and could hardly wait to get off the plane, it was finally over. After going through the New York airport, we headed outside. There it was, New York City. It was so crowded, and everyone seemed to be in a hurry. The next minute or so, my dad got out his map to see where we were going. I quickly followed behind him and tried not to get lost. The air was filled with the smell of hot dogs being sold from vendors on street corners. The streets were packed with the hustle and bustle of traffic and people. As I tried to keep up with my dad, I occasionally came across a homeless person trying to stop me to give him money. After catching up, we decided to go look at Madison Square Garden. Afterward, we stopped at Burger King and bought burgers. All I kept thinking about was the image of ground zero. I kept asking myself questions like, what will it look like, and how many people are going to be around there. In approaching ground zero, I suddenly felt a wave of sadness come over me. It was a humid and rainy day. From a distance, I could see the September 11th signs with all the names of the people who died on that tragic day. Seeing ground zero, made me feel angry and heartbroken. At ground zero, I could see where the trade centers once stood. There was no monument up yet, just a big empty hole. As we looked out, everything was clean and there was no debris left. The whole area was fenced off and we could not see much. Looking closer, we could see the workers work, trying to get ready to rebuild. I could sense the unhappiness in the air.
