...eaning for the letter was not. The scarlet letter A stood for adulteress. I think Hester Prynne stood out from all the other people because she wasn’t afraid of who she was. In my opinion, it was most likely certain people that labeled her, and then every one else went with it and called an adulteress too. This was kind of like the way the Salem witch trials were. These certain people probably labeled her because they were afraid of getting labeled for something bad they had done themselves. So they decided to label someone else as a bad person so the attention would get drawn away from them, and if they did this, no one would find out what they were doing, or what they had done that was so bad.
