He is the same before, during and after the fast. But fasting will change the person. It will help him keep the flesh under the Spirit and make him more sensitive to the Holy Spirit. It means isolating oneself for a time from bodily cravings to focus undividedly on the Lord. Second is discernment. The evidence of Scripture for one purpose of fasting points to the need for discernment and spiritual perception as well as guidance from the Lord. Fasting provides the extra time to wait on and fellowship with the Lord, to rest in His presence and receive His word.
