When Jem and Scout go to Mrs. Dubose’s, the details describing her are amazing, “She was horrible. Her face was he color of a dirty pillowcase, and the corners of her mouth glistened with wet, which inched like a glacier down the deep grooves enclosing her chin” (106). Another example is when Scout sees Boo Radley, “His cheeks were thin to hollowness...there were shallow, almost delicate indentations at his temples” (270) shows his age and how fragile his face seems. The last example is when Scout tries to explain to Miss Caroline how poor the Ewells are “His neck was dark gray, the backs of his hands were rusty, and his fingernails were black deep into the quick. He peered at Miss Caroline from a fist-sized clean spot on his face” (27). These examples show how certain conflicts give descriptive details about the characters. There are twists that the reader would not expect to happen in this book. During the trial, Atticus made such a good performance that it seemed as if he might win the case.
