The difference between the american and european school systems
... it as many times as you want until you are satisfied with your grade. Your highest score gets sent out with your transcripts for an administrator to review. You can apply to as many schools as you want. For example, this year I applied to about 11 schools. Depending on your SATs as well as your GPA and extracurricular activities, a school decides whether they would like to accept you or not. No matter how bad you might think your SAT scores are, it is guaranteed that there will be a university that will allow you to attend, even if it is a community college. In Europe things are done way differently. When it’s time to start applying to college, you narrow down your choices to which schools you would like to attend. Each school will then require you to take an entry exam. Unlike the SATs, where there is no pass or fail, these tests are possible to fail. If you do not get the grade they require, you cannot attend that school. Instead they suggest a list of technical schools you may look into. Technical schools give you a chance to work on a certain skill, so one may become a computer technician, or an electrician. High school in Europe gives you a more likely chance to pass these tests that the universities require, though. Their level of teaching is a much higher level than what kids in America are used to. In America, we are taught on a on-level basis, where as in Europe there are taught above level, preparing students much more for college. This also brings us to why there are so few universities in Europe. In America we have thousands so everyone could go to school somewhere. In Europe there aren’t as many because it’s so difficult to get into in the first place. I favor the American school system more than I do the European system. I have a liking for both, but the American system suits me better. I do think that the method of teaching in Europe is 100% better in Europe than it is over here in America, but I think going to school is America gives you more of a chance to get into college. Even if you don’t go to a high class school, at least you are going somewhere, and parents are extremely happy with that. For example, Barry University isn’t one of the top schools in the country, but my parents didn’t care, as long as I was going to sch...
