Constantly fighting, getting into one fight after another, annoying his teachers, sassing adults, and taking the role of a leader in whatever he did. You could say that John came by his character traits naturally, or genetically to use the scientific term. His mother and father were impulsive and carefree, prone to eyebrow-raising behavior and impervious to the community’s expectations of proper conduct. John’s mother, Julia was one of five daughters of George and Annie Stanley, all of whom were strong and individualistic. At age fourteen, the outgoing, pretty was strolling through the park one day when she encountered Johns father sixteen year old Alfred Lennon, who had been raised most of his life in an orphanage. Alfred made advances and soon the two were dating. Rash, adventurous, and bold Alfred immediately captivated the young and impressionable Julia. But soon they began to be separated a lot because Alfred was always traveling. Because when he first met Julia he had signed up as a ship’s steward, or waiter. Although these two continued to date the only time they were together was between cruises. Soon these two married in 1938, and after there marraige Alfred shipped out for a three-month cruise. They still continued to see each other whenever Alfred came into port, and on one of these visits Julia became pregnant with John. After John was born Alfred supported Julia with funds. This lasted until about a year later, because Alfred got into some big trouble and was jailed for three months without pay. So then the relationship had ended. So on Julia met John Dykins whom she became seriously involved with. Dykins did not meet with the family approval anymore that Alfred. Ending the household squabbling Julia left the family home and moved into a tiny flat with Dykins. Taking John with her.
