Intelligence is defined as the ability to learn from experience, solve problems and use knowledge to adapt to new situation. Based on the definition of intelligence Forrest demonstrates intelligence throughout the movie. Forrest was able to adapt to the new situation of joining the army and excelled in his ranking. He used knowledge to understand what was needed to make his commanding officer surprised of his ability. In the army, Gump was able to use problem solving to assemble and dismantle his weapon in record timing. Finally, Gump demonstrated the ability to learn from experiences by resulting to run away whenever faced with danger. At a young age Gump learned that whenever from Jenny to “run” whenever threatened, as a result when his fleet was under attack he was able to run his soldiers out to safety. According to Gardner and Thurstone idea of intelligence coming in different packages and multiple intelligences, Forrest Gump can considered intelligent. Gardner believed that intelligence could be distinguished among three aspects: analytical intelligence, creative intelligence and practical intelligence. Gump did not demonstrate analytical intelligence because he did poorly on the intelligence test given to him, but he demonstrated creative intelligence and practical intelligence.
