This whole logic clearly emerge the idea of equality. Whitman argues that the body of a slave or a dull-faced immigrant is also sacred. He defends the equal right to have qualities by asking, “Do you thin matter has cohered together from its diffuse float – and the soil is on the surface, and water runs, and vegetation sprouts, for you only, and not for him and her?” In the next two stanzas, Whitman describes the scene of selling the male and female slave at auction.
