Babysitting 101
...embryo existing inside of a woman. Factually, in the first trimester of pregnancy this “embryo” is nothing more than cells living off of the mother. It has no developed organs, and is not a biological living organism. Dr. Peikoff, a writer for Capitalism Magazine commented on the anti-abortionists' attitude, saying that, “you cannot be in favor of life and yet demand the sacrifice of an actual, living individual to a clump of tissue.” Which ever side one may feel obligated to take; it is important to realize that, these beliefs are their own and should not be imposed on others. When I was in the seventh grade a group of anti-abortionist stood outside my grade school, and as class got out at the end of the day they held large signs with pictures of dead babies, covered in blood. As a thirteen year-old girl the thought of abortion never had entered my mind, yet people I didn’t even know were already trying to force their opinions on me with false depictions of the subject. These groups feel it necessary to protest, and call these women murders for living their lives, when perhaps they should raise their children with these morals, but allow others to form their own opinions or to let their parents pass down their own morals on the subject. These groups also brought forth laws in thirty-nine states that made it illegal to receive an abortion without parental consent or through the court system. These Parental consent laws force anyone under the age of eighteen to tell their parents of the abortion. This becomes very serious in circumstances such as abusive family life, an incest pregnancy, or even that the minor fears their parents, therefore elongating the time before the abortion if performed. This can cause the abortion to be more expensive, and riskier. If the minor does not go to their parents they can go to court and receive consent from a judge. Therefore saying that a minor is mature enough to have a child, but is not mature enough to make their own decision whether to have a child or not. The choice of abortion is usually supported by fact that it would not be healthy for either the mother or the child to go through with pregnancy. Six out of ten women seeking abortion experienced contraceptive failure, and are not prepared to raise a child. Thirty three percent of abortions are the choice of families with incomes less than 11,000 which is not enough to properly raise a child. Many others are from abusive relationships or rape. There is no reason these women should be forced to have a child that they can not support and love...
