...ould smoke. Some teenagers see it as “Celebrities are doing it…so I should to.” Most of the time the media does not show that bad effects of smoking. For example, smoking causes cancer in the throat, mouth and lungs, it stains your teeth, the smell stays in your clothes and it gives you bad breath. The media is misleading people into believing that nothing happens when the smoke. Peer pressure has played a big role in why people start smoking. I remember the first time I smoked a cigarette. It was at a party that one of my friends threw. Many people were either smoking or drinking. One of them came up to me and asked if I wanted a cigarette. I said no, but they kept on persisting saying that it wasn’t going to hurt me. So I fell into what they told me. The next thing I knew, I had to have cigarettes. The nicotine got to me. I became addicted. As my smoking habits increased my lungs got worse and worse. I found it hard to run short distances, go up stairs without breathing hard and the smell of smoke was always on my hands. Right then and there I knew I had to stop. So I quit cold turkey.
