The only reason they are in school is because they have to be and their parents don’t want them at home. In today’s society people want to learn and expand their knowledge. However, there is a lot of people who do not value education, thinking that life is too short to waste on studying. People today just like in Fahrenheit, do not focus on their studies as much as they used to. Secondly, both of the societies are not as active as they should be. In Fahrenheit’s society the people just seem to watch TV, go to bed, or drive around speeding in their cars; “by the end of the day we can’t do anything but go to bed…Or go out in the cars and race on the streets, trying to see how close you can get to lampposts, playing ‘chicken’ and ‘knock hubcaps’ ”(Bradbury 30). Similarly, people in today’s society do not do much with their lives either. In today’s world when people have some free time instead of reading a book, or doing something constructive they sit around at home watching TV, playing video games or on the internet. Thus, both modern day society and Fahrenheit society are not as active as they should be. Lastly, people rely on technology in both Bradbury’s society and today’s society .
