Phil Vassar
...s a motivation. He was uncertain what he wanted to do with his life before and during college. He then followed his heart and used his talents to perform and write songs and become a succesful country artist. Phil Vassar has won many industry awards including, Billboard’s songwriter of the year award in 1998 and R & R’s best new artist of the year in 2001 (Phil Vassar Biography and Discography). His first hit song to reach number one on the Billboard charts, “Just Another Day in Paradise” is about the comforting routines of every day life (Phil Vassar Biography and Discography). In this song he writes about the happiness of a family and how the strength, support, and love of a family can be very beneficial. As Phil Vassar writes in his song “Just another day in paradise”; Baby don’t kick it I promise I’ll fix it Long about a million other things Well, its okay. It’s so nice It’s just another day in paradise (12-16) I believe he is referring to the importance of family bonds and support. During the transitions of college, it is very important to stay close to your family and friends from home. During difficult times, they will be the ones who will always be there for you. Sometimes it will be difficult to keep that connection with family when a college student moves away to have independence from home. I believe it is important to remember that it is still okay to return to the paradise and the support at home when you have a rough time. Family is a very important part of my life. I turn to my family when I have any problems or questions. The song, Just Another Day In Paradise, by Phil Vassar is significant to me because it resembles my childhood. Even though my family had the typical small problems of most families, we were still strong enough to solve the problems and enjoy the small things in our paradise. Phil Vassar writes, “Well it’s two hearts/ and one dream”(19-20). My parents love each other so much that they had two children, my brother and I, and many dreams for the family. We had problems like any other family. The kids screaming, phone ringing Dog barking at the mailman bringing That stack of bills-overdue… There goes the washing machine baby don’t kick it. I promise I’ll fix it Long about a million other things. (2-13) I love this part of the song, it reminds me of a typical day in my house. My mom and dad took turns staying home while Bryon, my brother and I grew up. We would be picking on each other while the phone would be ringing in the background. Like the strong family bond we had in our immediate family, my mom and my dad were close to their siblings and parents as well, they were always calling to catch up. Our house was built by my father and grandfather in 1984, a year before I was born. It was ready for us to move into, but not completely finished when I was born in the winter of the next year. Having a newborn baby in the house, slowed the construction down a lot, they couldn’t find the time or money to complete the small things that needed completion. It wouldn’t be completely finished until I was in the ninth grade. While we were growing up, it didn’t matter if our house was completely finished or if the washing machine was broken. All that mattered was the love we had for each other. If times got rough we knew we had each other to go to “somebody ha...
