...s. “Richard did you get a chance to look at the proposal?” Jack asked. “No not as of yet” replied Richard “worry not I will get to it in good time.” “Richard as your friend I implore you.” “Friend, is that what we are” Richard interrupted. “ When have you ever taken an interest in my affairs, when they did not aid you financially?” Richard retorted. “ I beg your pardon Richard, but I think you know better than that” Jack defended. “I know, I know, forgive me, I have not been myself lately” Richard replied, “in fact I do believe I will take the afternoon off and put my personal affairs in proper order”. “Jack, you have my confidence, if the new venture meets with your approval by all means proceed with my blessing.” “Very well, I will Rich, Rich are you all right” Jack asked, “well get some rest I will take care of matters here.” Richard stepped back onto the street the sun hurt his eyes as he looked around only to find his driver and carriage had gone, no matter he thought the walk will do me some good. Over the cobble stone bridge he stepped with cane in hand, and the warmth of the sun on his back. How many times had he walked this path with a song on his lips, and Hanna by his side? Hanna; ever the faithful companion, oh how he longed for her now. Richard was a man who liked things to be realistic, he did not waste time on petty things, nor did he spend time daydreaming. Hanna no longer walked by his side, and wishing could not make it so. On he walked thinking to himself, how hard could it be to choose a replacement for her. The fact of the matter was he had never chosen Hanna in the first place she had chosen him. As he walked on, the all to familuar melancholy longing overtook him, and he thought why had he left her alone in the garden that cold winter night. How he pondered what he would do different if only given the chance. The loss was unbearable, for Hanna had been the only one to love him without condition. Hanna knew not of, nor did she care for his considerable wealth. Hanna was never to busy, or self involved to give him her undivided, and most sincere attention. All of Richard’s lady friends knew all to much about the finer places to dine, or the quality of the jewelry he did provide them. Hanna knew when he was sad, knew when he was happy, and knew when to be his companion. She would sit by his side in the evening and share her soul with his. Kindred spirits was the thought that ran through Richard’s mind, as he wiped away a tear, never more to return he thought. Why did I leave her alone in the garden he thought once more? Upon returning to his home, Richard retired to his reading room, poured himself a scotch, and eased into his leather reading chair. Once again he relived the night where in haste he put Hanna out into the garden to relieve himself of being bothe...
