Archie against the odds
...m to live a different live from the one he’s exposed to everyday. When Archie was fourteen, his father died. After his father’s death he was taking into the custody of his grandmother. Archie’s grandmother dropped out of school in the ninth grade, but she had a good head on her shoulders, and lived by the faith of God. In a way, she is responsible for Archie’s drive to do well in life. One day Archie and his friend “were walking to a grocery store when they were stopped and taken to the police station as suspects in a robbery.” When Archie’s grandmother picked him up, she looked at him and said “ your turning out just like your dad.” Those words stuck with Archie and gave him the ambition to do well and make the right decisions. Archie was accepted into one of the best private schools in the south. This high school wasn’t located anywhere near the housing projects were he lived, it was far on the other end of town. Archie had to make many sacrifices to get there and to stay there. He had to quit the basketball team in order to have more time to study. He travels an hour and half ever morning to get to school, and an hour and a half...
