...n. However, I was allowed to select my presentation date, and I chose a day that was nine months away to allow adequate preparation time. I quickly joined “Toastmasters” to be coached on effective public speaking skills that I felt would increase my confidence and ultimately reduce my anxiety. I had no ideal what lay ahead at “Toastmasters.” My first three speeches were “shaky” at best. However, I slowly improved becoming more comfortable not only in preparation, but in the delivery as well. Over the course of the next four years (including my presentation), I successfully completed the entire “Toastmasters” program as a “Distinguished Toastmaster,” a title reserved for very few. However, I also started the program over again at the first level, “Speaking and Leadership.” I then spent three years as both a club and district officer assisting our group and eventually our division to become “President’s Distinguished.” I w...
