corruption vs purity
...mes regarding the way God interacted with these purity codes in the book of Genesis seem somewhat severe. The perception of Noah having purity and being the only honorable man on earth seems somewhat unbelievable. It is evidently written in the Bible, no matter what version one owns, that all are born into sin, therefore all men are born corrupt. Noah was a corrupt man by birth. He found favor in the eyes of the Lord because his sins were not as calamitous as the remainder of mankind. Noah was a carpenter, an occupation which lacked many articles, including an adequate amount of resources to provide for his family. During Noah’s time, as it is stated in many areas of the Bible, many men who lacked sufficient funds to maintain a family cheated, robbed and performed whatever action was necessary to sustain life. I believe Noah was one of these men; the only divergence was that Noah did not commit murder as many other men had, which was why Noah was chosen and favored by God. Darkness, or what some would call corruption, is thought of as the reason as to why men have lost faith in one another. In reality, corruption is the reason why many, if not most men are successful and encompass the drive to succeed. One does not need to master the politics of hatred in order to become “the best” or be living evidence of what society considers “successful”, but instead be aware of how to manipulate the rules of man to make these rules beneficial. The narrative of Cain and Abel explicitly acts as the background to God’s covenant with Cain, and speaks of the first shedding of man’s blood. Many may think of Cain as a murderer, when in fact it was just his competitive nature that drove him to murder his kin. Whatever Abel set his hands prospered and was thought of as good in the eyes of the Lord. Cain, however, was not as fortunate as his sibling. Any herb or plant that Cain cultivated ceased to grow. Cain was determined to make his brother seem inferior in God’s eyes; so he accomplished this by slaughtering him. Though Cain’s corrupted mind shunned him from his family in this instance, it still drove him to excel by any means necessary. Good and bad is in the essence of every man; the darkness may occasionally out shine the light, but the goals one sets forth must be achieved--if not through hard work, then through deceit and treachery. In Timeaus, Plato declares that the world is not “fair or perfect” (31). He says that one must perform the necessary acts for survival in this world, even if it is through cheating and confusing one another. Corruption of the mind can be disastrous at times, but many evils in the world will ultimately...
