Traditional law held a child's insubordination to a parent to be a capital offense, and a daughter-in-law's insubordination to her parents-in-law grounds for divorce. Acts of heroic sacrifice in the support of one's parents are the commonest and most important genre of Chinese moral tales. (K. Jordan, 1996) For instance, most of the Chinese parents¡¯ parenting style is the authoritarian type. Compare to west parenting style, they are more restrictive, controlling and rejecting. Form a toddle, child taught to obey and respect for elders, accept decisions they made for me (they are not suppose to say ¡°No¡± to their parents); responsible for their younger sisters and/or brother, only pay attention on studying, and the like. When child was misbehaving, discipline would be reproving and blaming. The strange thing is: child would not felt any thing uncomfortable about these since every other child had been treated in this way.
