Critique In this book the author was very clear in presenting the issue of slavery in this book. The way the author described the lifestyles of the slaves and what they had to endure was excellent. The author presented an opinion in her book about how she discouraged slavery. In the issue of slavery I am in total agreement with Harriet Beecher Stowe. I think slavery is wrong and no race should superiority over another race just because of the color of someone’s skin. In my opinion I consider this book to be scholarly. I think this book is scholarly because it teaches the audience about slavery and what the black race had to go through. Ides & Conclusion One idea that struck me in the book, is that a master could have a slave and their family and sell every one of the family members to different people. First of all, you have slaves, like that is not bad enough, but you could at least keep the family together. Another point that was made in the book is that a master could beat a slave to death and nothing was done about it because it was his “property”.
