Inclusion in the Classroom

The reason I do not believe inclusion is something that is right for all students with special needs, is simply because inclusion sometimes leaves classroom teachers without the resources, training, and other supports necessary to teach students with disabilities in our classrooms. Therefore not only are the students with disabilities not getting specialized attention and care, but the regular students education is being disrupted daily. I find myself spending more of my instruction time being used up on dealing with those special needs students, than I do with other students. So maybe the lack of support that I receive is why inclusion has not been something I strongly embrace, not because I am from the “old school.” I have no problem teaching or having special needs students in my class.
