Once she drops out of school, she will fail to be involved in social life, community activities, and even in family. Friends and families are the most important factors in people’s, especially in teenagers’ lives and once they start to have less and less contact with such group of people, it is probable that teenagers will be put in depressions, which can cause other problems than pregnancy itself. Such depression can lead to use of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and even commit suicide. These affect not only the mother, but also baby as well. In fact, use of alcohol, drugs, tobaccos, and mal condition of mother have rather more harmful effects on baby than on mother herself. Such behaviors of mother often result in birth defects and in worst cases, miscarriage (Lachance). Even if a teenage mother safely gives birth to her child, there are more problems in front of her and a newborn baby. Because it is most likely that the teenage mothers or teenage parents are not educated enough, they won’t be financially able to support the necessities of their baby. Such condition causes failure of proper nutrition, health care, and cognitive and social stimulation. As a result, the baby may have an underdeveloped intellect and attain lower academic achievement. Also, children born to teenage mothers are at greater risk for abuse and neglect and girls are 22% more likely to become teenage mothers themselves (Casey). Unlike some teenagers who try to take care of their babies, there are more irresponsible people who just neglect their babies and let their parents take care of their “grandson” or “granddaughter”. This causes unhappiness in the whole family because the parents are very disappointed and sometimes they are not financially able to support more children. These neglected children will be then send to orphanage not knowing where they are going and what their future will be. A decision made without concerns for its consequences can have negative affects on many people physically and emotionally. Once a teenager becomes pregnant, the options are limited, but they are definitely available. First choice is parenting which will require a lot of responsibilities and teenage mothers have to realize this to be able to become a good mother. If one chooses this option, one will witness growth of their own children into a beautiful adult, which will be the most rewarding experiences ever. Parenting is a lifelong commitment to your child, promising him or her the best care possible, undying love, financial, physical, emotional, and spiritual support. However, it is very doubtful that teenage mother will successfully parent their children without any difficulties because adults who are financially stable and mature have hard time providing sufficient necessities to their child. Second option is adoption. Sometimes adoption can be the best choice because the babies will do better with more reliable parents who are actually ready to take such a big responsibility. However, it is not guaranteed that the baby will have a perfect life with his new parents. Therefore, teenage mothers have to take risks in both of the options. Although there are two options pregnant teenage girls can go for, about 40% of the girls get abortion according to the statistics presented by U.S Bureau of Census. Abortion is another controversial issues in the society today. One might be able to escape the responsibilities required to be a parent, there will be another affects both physical and emotional. Also, It is very self-centered to choose abortion, because “one is only thinking of what will benefit herself and not what will benefit her child” (Cook 15). There are many people out there who can't have children who would love to adopt a child and thus, one should not rely on abortion in case of unplanned abortion. In the past, American society was more conservative and it was hard for teenagers and even adults to have sexual relationship before marriage and even date each other. However, today, dating has become very common between teenagers that one will easily find teenagers who have their boyfriends or girlfriends. This leads to higher possibility of sexual relationship even before they reach emotional maturity (Encyclopedia 1).
