...f the story Nagania comes off has a wicked character. However she is just trying to be a good mother and sometimes does things in a wicked way to protect her babies. For example, “She had crept up behind Rikki; to make an end of him”. All of the garden animals are scared of her because she could eat one of their eggs, but she is just doing what snakes do. Another way that she shows she can be wicked is when she threatens to kill the human family for killing Nag. Another trait of Nagania was how protective of her eggs she was. She wanted a good home for her babies so she needed to get rid of Rikki by doing everything she could. Knowing that her eggs could be crushed, she even hid them so no one else could find them. Nagania is just trying to be a good mother, and when her last egg is between Rikki’s paws, she shows it. “Give me the last of my eggs and I will go and never come back”. Nagania is also very intelligent. From the very start she knew that if the house were empty then Rikki would leave and not come back.
