... together in defeat in hope that the others would carry on and win the fight for freedom. The role of African Americans in the Civil War in Glory is a major one. They seemed to be a major factor in every battle in the Civil War in the movie. It seemed as if most of the Union army was made up of African American soldiers. The movie also showed some of the white officers prejudice and mistreatment of the African American soldiers in the Union. Some of the white officers criticized the African Americans of not being prepared for war and even denied them of shoes when they were requested. The movie also showed how the African Americans were punished by fellow Union soldiers for breaking rules, just as if they had not forgotten that they were slaves. I would say that a majority of the movie accurately portrays the African Americans role in the Civil War.
