Poetry Analysis
... obviously have is that they both are about girls and how girls always have these issues with there looks. As the first poem starts out it talks about how the girl child was born into a normal world and she has dolls, GE stoves, and irons, and all of a sudden this girl went through Hill 2 puberty and she was no longer pretty and everyone began to call her fat and talked about her big nose. This girl had major disappointment in her life and was never happy about anything because she was always judged. This girl revolved her whole life around attempting to change how she looked for other people and in the end once she died everyone said doesn’t she look pretty? This was so ironic because that is all the girl ever wanted to be. The second poem shared many similarities as Barbie Doll. It is about a girl who never stops complaining about her life. Although the poems share many of the same similarities they do have some things that are not the same. For example in the first poem the girl wants the world to accept her and look at her as if she is some kind of supermodel. Therefore she wants to change her whole appearance to try and make her life happy and in the end she just looses because she cuts her legs and nose off and then ends up in a casket. And that is the only peace that she ends up with. The author of the Barbie Doll uses great imagery and Hill 3 lets the reader see exactly how the girl looked and felt whenever she was alive and when she dies. In the second Poem Hanging Fire the girl is more concerned about her mother and why she doesn’t get the attention she deserves. The girl is perfectly normal and has all of the same problems that every other girl usually has. The difference from Barbie Doll poem is that this author gives the reader more of a different type of imagery. The author gives the reader this girl who is obviously sitting in her room and she is very bored and gets very ...
