...ow called Oklahoma. The Cherokee and the Choctaw Indians said “NO” and they sued the United States Supreme Court for their right to stay on their lands. In two cases, Cherokee nation vs. Georgia (1831) then in 1832 Worcester vs. Georgia the supreme court agreed to let the 5 tribes stay on their lands but President Andrew Jackson who hated Indians ignored the court’s ruling and sent the federal troops move them to Oklahoma. The Cherokee, Choctaw, and Creeks were all moved in 1838 during a real bad snowstorm within doing that a lot of Indians died. I am kin to the Choctaw tribe by my great grand mother who was full-blooded Choctaw Indian. The Choctaw are from a valley in Mississippi, legends have been told that the Choctaw people came from “Ninah Waya” a hill near Nozapter, Mississippi. Ninah Waya means “productive mountain” and is also known as “The Mother Mound”. In 1830 there was a Treaty called the Dancing Rabbit treaty, the treaty made the Choctaw Indians move from their land to Oklahoma. 20,000 Choctaw began the trip, only 7,000 made it. This was called the infamous “Trail of Tears”. In 1828, the Choctaw had been one of the first tribes to copy the European’s style like, the gowns the Choctaw women wore, and sometimes the suits the men wore. The Choctaw built roads, schools and churches. They even had their own government. They even owned some land and, held slaves. The Choctaw had there own doctors, teachers, and lawyers, a lot of them went to white universities and got their degrees...
