... In 1984, Jordan left North Carolina after his junior year to enter into the NBA draft. The Chicago Bulls selected Jordan as the third pick overall. Jordan quickly made an impact on the Bulls, and the entire league. He led them to the playoffs, but was defeated by the Boston Celtics. Jordan missed the entire 1986-87 season due to an injury in one of the first games of the season. Jordan persevered and came back better than ever, with more amazing moves, and won back to back NBA Slam Dunk titles in 1987 and 1988. However, the Chicago Bulls were stopped short every time of trying to make it to the NBA finals. Finally, in 1990-91 NBA season the Chicago Bulls made it to the NBA finals and defeated the Los Angeles Lakers to win the NBA championship. Jordan also won the leagues MVP award. He then went back to North Carolina to get his degree in Bachelor of Arts. His determination and hard work was beginning to pay off. The Chicago Bulls went on to win three straight NBA championships riding the magnificent play of Michael Jordan. On August 21, 1993 James Jordan, Michael’s father was shot and killed in a robbery attempt. Michael became devastated and no longer wanted to continue playing basketball. Jordan had nothing else to prove to himself, so he retired and went on to play Minor League Baseball in Birmingham, Alabama for the Barons. Jordan’s father always wanted him to play baseball, so Michael like every other challenge put in front of him was determined to become the best baseball player he could be. Michael did not have the best baseball career he thought he would and he began to miss the game of basketball. After 17 months of time off from basketball, Jordan returned to the Chicago Bulls. When he first came back, the Bulls were defeated in the playoffs by the Orlando Magic. That failure made Jordan train harder than he ever had in the off season to get back on top. During the 1995-96 season, the Bulls went on to finish with the greatest record of all time, winning 72 games and only losing 10. Behind Michael, the also went on to win their fourth NBA title. By this time, Jordan was well deserving to be categorized as the greatest basketball player of all time. The Bulls went on to win a fifth championship by defeating the Utah Jazz for the first time. At the beginning of the 1998 season, it was said to be the “last dance” for Michael Jordan and the current members of the Chicago Bulls. They made it once again to the NBA finals to face the Utah Jazz for the second straight year. With 42 seconds left in the game and down by four, Michael literally took control of the game. He made a driving lay up, and on the defensive side stole the ball from forward Karl Malone for the Utah Jazz. With 6.6 seconds left, Michael took his last shot in a Chicago Bulls uniform and made it which put the Bulls up by one. That shot allowed the Bulls to win their sixth NBA title in the last eight years. The Chicago Bulls were now a dynasty for the ages, thanks to Michael Jordan. After the 1998 season, made the toughest decision of his life, to retire or once again play for the Chicago Bulls. On January 13, 1999, Michael Jordan shocked the world by retiring for the second time from the game of basketball after 13 unbelievable seasons. But Jordan could not stay away from the game of basketball. In January of 2000, he became part owner and President of Basketball Operations for the Washington Wizards.
