.... President Woodrow Wilson did make some important contributions during his presidency. He developed income tax, tariff reform, the Federal Reserve Act, and the Workingmen’s Compensation Act. On the other hand, President Woodrow Wilson was a white supremacist and he interfered with the affairs of foreign countries. Wilson racially segregated the federal government. Also, the Ku Klux Klan was reestablished when Wilson was in office. Many African Americans were lynched and Wilson did nothing about it. Wilson also was a nativist and questioned the loyalty of all people who were not “full blood Americans”. During Wilson’s presidency, the US persistently intruded in Latin American affairs and invaded Mexico in 1914. Wilson even took over Haiti, but all of these facts are dismissed in history books. Helen Keller is known primarily because she overcame being blind and deaf, learning to read, write, and speak. Textbooks leave out the fact that she was a major socialist. Most Americans do not accept the ideas of socialism, which raises concerns about Helen Keller. That’s why textbooks would rather leave her as the handicapped girl who overcame many obstacles.
