He thinks to himself that the omnipotent God does not show him the world he is currently in, but the malicious demon devil, with the same power as the almighty god, that employs all his powers to deceive him. Descrates was led to doubt many things by his childhood, where he accepted many things which later in life was learned to be false. Descrates makes very good points about his distinction between reality and dreams. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I’ve awoken and believed my dreams to be real. It can often be difficult. Im sure many people have woken up crying hysterically from a dream. Even though we know it was a false reality, it tricked or minds enough to believe that it was real, invoking one of the soul’s most painful emotions of sorrow. However, dreams can be a link about things we are going through in life. True joys and sorrows can be a movie of some sort in our minds, or a “painting” as Descrates described. Or how often have our “paintings” been utterly ridiculous, like a giant ape climbing a large building or being with someone we only see in movies or with someone who has left us long ago. There is a thin line between fantasy and reality in our dreams. This virtual reality of dreams can be so real sometimes that it is hard to distinguish between the two.
