They were murdered on a road from Aguilares to El Paisnal. This occurred shortly after Oscar Romero’s ascension to archbishop. With this knowledge, he spoke out against murders in public masses and broadcasted over the radio about this issue. It was believed the hired assassin that shot him to death was one of those death squads that Oscar Romero spoke out against. This example shows Oscar Romero’s care for all human beings and that all human beings should be recognized how much their lives were worth. All the unfortunates should not be looked down upon and be mistreated badly, especially murdering them for what they feel they are worth. Oscar Romero wants to bring social justice in his society and make peace without the use of violence. He was willing to sacrifice his life for the greater good to bring peace and social justice. When he preached to the death squad, which included the military, he stated that “every person is the same person we are. Killing the peasants is killing their own brothers and sisters and to remember God’s rule, ‘thou shalt not kill’. They do not have to do things that are contrary to God’s law. Please stop the cruelty.” This statement, summarized, showed his courageousness preaching to the military. His vocation was made very dangerous but Oscar Romero still continued because he cared.
