...ic. Diversity has come to mean much more than recruiting and keeping minorities and women. Many more groups are now included in diversity efforts. Sometimes the issue is a difference in ages. “The boomers (born between 1946-1964) say that Generation Xers (born between 1965-1980) are slackers, whiners; they are rude, they lack social skills, and they always want to buck the system, and they don’t want to spend time in the ranks. And the Xers say the boomers are self-righteous: they are workaholics, they are more interested in politics than results, and they talk a good talk but don’t practice what the preach.” (www.mhhe.com/ub7e p. 22) I find that very interesting because my father is a boomer and everything that the Xers said about them are true, especially in his case. Working in this kind of environment with all different generations would create a conflict. I know from my experience, that when I work with people from the ages of 16-20 that I just absolutely loose my mind. I know that I was that age once but it seems now that they don’t appreciate anything that they have and all they do is want, want, want. I wasn’t raised like that, if I wanted something I had to earn it. I believe that if people are to work on teams, they have to learn to work together with people who have different personalities, priorities and lifestyles.
